The SPECIAL CONCERT SERIES features outstanding young Filipino artists in solo concerts. It highlights local and international prize winners in vocal and instrumental music and artists with performing careers abroad. The program seeks to get the general public and the youth to watch and appreciate classical music and be exposed to dynamic young Filipino artists who are making a mark on the classical music scene.

Born in Manila, the Philippines on June 26, 1986, Mr. Salonga started playing the piano at age 7 under the tutelage of Prof. Carmencita Arambulo. He gave his first solo public recital at the age 11 playing the Mozart Piano Concerto in d minor K. 466. He first came to the attention of the Manila’s music enthusiasts and gained national recognition when he won the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) twice in a row – 1998 and in 2001. He graduated with high honors from the Philippine High School for the Arts and was awarded as Outstanding Graduate Artist for Music. After performing the Grieg Piano Concerto Opus 16 in Singapore, he made his debut at the Cultural Center of the Philippines with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Ruggiero Barbieri.


Recently, he obtained his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance at University of Southern California studying under the guidance of Mr. Norman Krieger. In addition, he minored in Music Analysis, Music Management, Audio-Engineering, and Collaborative Arts. In 2009 and 2011, he obtained his Master of Music and Artist Diploma in Piano Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music under the guidance of 2001 Van Cliburn Silver Medalist, Antonio Pompa-Baldi and was awarded the Sadie Zellen Piano Prize for his superior musical talent. Under his guidance, Salonga won the Gold Medal in 2008 Joenju International Piano Competition in South Korea. Also, he has been invited to the world's most prestigious competitions including the Hilton Head International Piano Competition (2010), Scottish International Piano Competition (2011), and Rina Sala Gallo International Piano Competition (2011) to name a few.


His orchestral engagements were received with critical acclaim. In 2005, He played the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2 in c minor with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra under the baton of George Ellis and got a standing ovation after his performance. Later that year, he performed the Liszt Piano Concerto No.2 in A major with the Lynn University Philharmonia under the baton of Albert George Schram and with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Rodel Colmenar. In 2014, he performed Chopin Piano Concerto No.2 in F minor with the Manila Symphony Orchestra with Antonio Molina as the conductor.


Currently, Oliver is under the guidance of Prof. Angela Cholakyan, Russian concert pianist and pedagogue, at the Soochow University in China and serves as her assistant. He also handles piano duo ensembles and piano students in the preparatory division. With their partnership, Oliver has won 2nd prize in 2015 Steinway National Piano Competition and 2nd prize in 2015 Yamaha Piano Competition in China.
