Fusion is an opera concert by the distinguished composer Jeffrey Ching, who was among the first recipients of the Jose Rizal Award for Excellence from the President of the Philippines. One of his opera compositions, Das Waisenkind, won the Theater Erfurt Audience Prize for best opera production of 2009-10. He has been featured in Neue Zeitschrift für Musik and on rbb, DLF, DLR Kultur and MDR Figaro. Recently he has just completed a prequel to Wagner’s Lohengrin for the 2014 Hong Kong Arts Festival. This concert also features mezzo-soprano Andión Fernández, Brazilian cellist Matias de Oliveira Pinto and Pianist Kiai Nara


Andión Fernández is a soloist of the Deutsche Opera Berlin (2001-10) and prize winner of Operalia International Opera Competition (Placido Domingo World Opera Contest) and Cardiff Singer of the World. She graduated with honors from the Universität der Künste, Berlin.  Moreover, she is married to Jeffrey Ching, who created his principal vocal works for her, including the title role of Das Waisenkind.


The cellist Matias de Oliveira was born into a family of artists in São Paulo, Brazil. At the age of 18, he became a teacher at the Music University in Curitiba, Brazil. In the same year, he won a scholarship from the Herbert von Karajan Foundation. In Berlin he studied with Prof. Eberhard Fink, and in Budapest with Prof. Csaba Onczay. Since 2005, he has been guest professor at the Universität der Künste (University of Arts) berlin.


Pianist Kiai Nara started playing piano in Japan at two years old and had her first public performance when she was five. She won First Prize and Gold Medal at the Robert Schumann International Competition in Zwickau, Germany, and high prizes from the Arthur Schnabel Competition in Germany, Busoni International Piano competition in Italy, Jose Iturbi International Piano Competition in Spain, and Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan.
